![]() These servers are designed to a Dell™ -developed Behavioral Specification that defines consistent hardware layout and user interaction across all server models in this and future PowerEdge generations. Through innovative hardware design, software commonality and continued focus on fewer system updates, Dell's 9th generation PowerEdge servers help reduce the complexity involved in managing data, whether you are a large enterprise or a small business. It could just be telling you your running a 1u server that's on the wrong side of 15 years old and slower then a raspberry pi.Dell's Innovative 9th Generation PowerEdge Servers firmware fixed it on a gen 3 but the gen 2 was un solvable. If you go in to the raid controller menu does it slow down ? I had issues with 2950s doing this running VMware 6.5 in a lab VMware after telling me to go f my self its a 2950 that it the os was not clearing the booting flag some crap about how 6.5 was not designed to run on anything with out UEFI. Gen 10 spanned a lot of architecture gen 1 and 2 are very different to the extent they should have not share a model number gen 2 and 3 are close but still some large differences. Gen 10 dells ERROR = FANS TAKE OFF MODE!!!!! this includes dumb stuff like 1 of the 2 PSU disconnected.ĭoes it have a DRAC card ? if the idrac is present but unable to communicate with the mainboard see above all generations do this.Īre they the same generation 1950 ? gen 10 spanned a lot of hardware buy todays standards Dempsey to Wolfdale ( 1 architecture change 2 what ever the fuck intel does now days die shrink + unicorn farts ? ) Thanks for taking the time to read.ĭo you have a warning condition on the LCD? or the indicator on the back next to the I button. Honestly I'm at a loss for what to try, I wouldn't be so annoyed if both of my machines were like this but I know the fans shouldn't be that loud and I'm just hoping someone has some pointers for me. I have tried everything to get it to quiet down, no luck with IPMI and sensor commands, I replaced the thermal paste recently and temperatures are fine, something suggested load based power management but that's not available on either of my machines, I've checked inside the chassis to make sure everything is seated nicely, and still no luck. ![]() Recently, I installed Ubuntu Server after finding a new hard drive (the same version as on my first machine) and started to get things up and running, but the fans are always going full speed, from boot to just running. Due to a lack of a secondary hard drive, I haven't had anything installed on the second 1950. The first one has been running non stop, the fans usually idle very low, temperatures have been fine (checking with lm-sensors), and it's subtle enough to live with, even under load. I've been runnin a small little lab in my room for the past half a year approximately, with a total of 2 PowerEdge 1950s. r/HomeNetworking - Simpler networking advice. r/pfsense - for all things pfsense ('nix firewall) Might be able to find things useful for a lab. r/hardwareswap - Used hardware, swap hardware. r/buildapcsales - For sales on building a PC r/linux - All flavors of Linux discussion & news - not for the faint of heart! ![]() Try to be specific with your questions if possible. r/linux4noobs - Newbie friendly place to learn Linux!
